衣替え (Koromo Gae) – Changing clothes

1st June – 水無月 Minazuki

衣替え (Koromo gae): When the season changes, change the clothing accordingly.

Generally, 1st June is the day most department stores and clothing shops change the display clothes to summer style. Summer clothes are sold around June till the end of September, then Winter clothes are sold during October and in the end of May.

In the school as well, from June many students start to change their long sleeve shirts to short sleeve.

Japanese style this summer

Every season each year, there are special trend for fashions in Japan. This year is themed as ‘sustainability’ – good care and continuous improvement for Environment, Economic and Society (three pillars). For Japanese fashion concept, it seems like focusing mainly on environment. Trend color is earth color, using the natural materials and eco-friendly processes / items are preferred this year. On this summer, it is expected that customers will go for simple and relaxing wears.

Let’s change the clothes inside the cabinet for the new season, so we are ready for the new season!

I started my new project 'Little Japan Dictionary' for the purpose of spreading the Japanese culture to the world. My English could be a bit weird sometimes as I am still learning, also the information I provide here could be wrong and contain my own opinion. Therefore, I would like you to just chill and enjoy gaining some interesting knowledge from here without serious argument. Hope you like it, thank you!

  1. Wow! Japanese tradition is turning out perfect day after day.
Nepalese trend of fashion never changes.
In-fact we are super Eco friendly
We wear grunge jeans letting the oxygen or air flow in each and every part of the body. Sometimes dust too!

    1. Haha sounds fair enough, that’s very Eco! I actually have a question, I saw some of my Nepali friends wore traditional colorful clothes on normal day. Does Nepalese wear the traditional clothes on normal days sometimes? (It might sounds like asking Japanese if they wear Kimono every day…ahaha but I’m just curious!)

      1. Yes, very little people wear. Example: my mother always wears some homemade traditional clothes on Normal day.
But modernized youth like me are more focused on junky cool-looking western and pretending dark clothes.
And really do Nepalese dress in traditional colorful clothes outside the country?
I think it’s one way of telling people, “We are the Gurkhas from Nepal don’t mess with us”.

      2. Just like Japan as well! Only few occasions we wear it as Kimono is very uncomfy to wear all the time (it is beautiful though).
Hahaha it looked very cool for me to see Nepalese friends wearing their traditional clothes in Australia!
